Care should be paid to the subtle commentary about social customs and norms and if the tenor of the piece lacks that tensionof a Dickens, then so much the better. I enjoy WMT's prose, it is so pleasant to read and I will continue getting his other works from until I have read them all.
An interesting read; it is a series of short stories. I wonder what Mr. Thackeray's wife thought of it. He did seem to have a drum to beat about women. Glad I read the book, though.
